About
Come join us as part of the crew for the adventure of a lifetime

You will be part of the working crew, participating in all the skills you need to become a competent yacht person.
You will be standing watches, cooking at sea, night sailing and exploring remote coastlines and beautiful islands.
This is not a cruise, this is an expedition.

You will help plan the trip, study the weather, set the sails and steer the vessel. We will make the yacht go where we want it to go. Exploring, interacting with nature, watching sunsets at sea, trawling for fish and frolicking in the beautiful Indian Ocean.

You will learn and practise all the skills you need to be able to do this safely on your own, and you will earn an internationally recognised IYT certificate that will allow you to charter yachts around the world.

We will also fit in plenty of adventure time, including swimming, snorkelling, fishing, exploring and friendship.

This is a great adventure covering all the skills you need to be able to do this for yourself.

##Frequently asked questions:

1. ***What qualifications can we get?***
We can offer you, at the successful passing of the exam, 3 qualifications at the end of this course. International Yacht Training, International bareboat skippers’ qualification.
International certificate of competency http://www.iytworld.com
Short range operators’ certificate of proficiency. (VHF radio Licence)

2. ***Is there any online training available prior to joining Queimarla?***
We will provide you with a comprehensive “e course” that you can work through in the comfort of your own home prior to sailing with us.
You will also receive an “e copy” of the IYT textbook for your course.
We will also send you a series of links to online u tube clips that we think are knowledgeable and worth watching.

3. ***What is your rough weather contingency plan?***
We place your safety above all other considerations.
Queimarla is a remarkable sea boat that has successfully sailed around the world. She is strong, safe and is fully approved by AMSA. We do not take undue risk; however, we do not hide from a little rough weather. This is your opportunity to stretch your envelope of comfort whilst having a lifelong professional sailor onboard with you.
Saying this we can fly home from the Abrolhos Islands if caught out there by extreme weather.

4. ***Can we fish onboard?***
This is predominately a sailing trip, but we certainly tow a lure when able and have a fish at anchor. We do not bring fish home; we eat what we catch onboard. You must make sure you have a current [WA Recreational Fishing license](https://www.fish.wa.gov.au/Fishing-and-Aquaculture/Recreational-Fishing/Pages/Recreational-Fishing-Licences.aspx) if you wish to spear fish, dive for crays or fish.

5. ***Can we surf?***
We have no insurance for surfing.

6. ***What about Diving?***
We would be crazy not to enjoy this incredible environment into which we are sailing. Yes, to snorkelling, yes to insurance, yes to we have gear onboard.

7. ***What gear is onboard?***
- All safety gear including life jackets & harnesses.
- All bedding.
- All Food and cooking equipment.
- Fridge & Freezer.
- Sunscreen.
- Snorkelling gear
- SUP board.
- 3.75m dinghy.
- Basic fishing gear.
- 2 x SUP boards & paddles.
- All training resources and equipment.
- Blue tooth speaker.
- Manual deck shower only

8. ***Do we need to study?***
We get 3 different sorts of people onboard: Those that want the awesome experience, those that want to be able to sail a charter boat and need the qualifications and those that want to sail their own boats and adventures.
Which are you? The last two groups should do some pre-study as provided. This will deepen your learning. The first group can mix another piña colada and observe!

9. ***Do I have to get the certificates?***
IYT charge $150 per certificate. You need them if chartering, they may reduce your insurance premium or make insurance easier to get and they look great in the pool room, but the choice is yours.

10. ***Is there a hot shower?***
We spend a great deal of effort keeping water out of the boat, so there is no shower below decks. We do have a saltwater deck shower, saltwater soap available and a freshwater rinse down on deck. We try to swim every day and so far, we have had no complaints about our smell.
*Please DO NOT bring baby wipes or body wipes.* These things are an environmental disaster and the most prevalent blockers of marine toilets ever invented. They should be illegal.
Swimming in the blue ocean is a perfect way to stay clean and fresh. We will have biodegradable salt water soap that works a treat.

11. ***What is the food like?***
I really like food. Lots of delicious fresh food. You will eat well and be part of the crew preparing these delicious meals. This can get a little competitive and result in some spectacular outcomes. You won’t be disappointed.

12. ***How do we get to the boat?***
We mostly sail from Fremantle, Busselton, and Port Denison (Dongara). Travel to the boat is your responsibility. Some folk drive, some catch the Trans West bus. (Cheap and efficient) We have no secure parking available in Dongara. However, we have never had an issue. Yet.

13. ***Coffee and Tea?***
We will have a selection of teas available on board, and fresh coffee beans. We have a hand crank coffee grinder, plungers and an Aeropress. It's a coveted job grinding the morning brew whilst standing up on deck staring at the water!
