The combination of fast-flowing whitewater and technical, boulder-choked sections makes this destination ideal for the more experienced whitewater kayaker who enjoys creek boating — but also suitable for brave beginners. If you have experienced the Soča River in summer, we highly recommend coming back in spring to discover this stunning river under different conditions.
With higher water levels, this course is the perfect step-up towards higher-volume rivers. At the same time, there are plenty of suitable sections for beginners as well. Think of stretches that are often too low in summer, such as the Upper Soča or the Koritnica.
During this course/holiday, our instructors will guide you on the river. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced paddler, you will paddle for 5 days in a small group (maximum 6 participants) with paddlers of a similar level. Each day you will explore a different section of river, ensuring continuous challenge, technical progression, and improved river reading skills.
We are happy to explain how the course/holiday works, what to bring, and how to travel to the location. Please also read our page Holiday – Important Information for additional details.
At 16:00 there will be a welcome meeting with the instructors and other participants. We will give a course briefing and distribute any rented equipment. If you brought your own gear, it will be checked for safety.
Joining for dinner? The instructors will prepare a meal for you.
We start with a shared breakfast at 08:30. You prepare your own lunch and pack everything for the paddling day. We usually finish on the river around 16:00.
The cooking group will do groceries and prepare dinner, after which we end the evening around the campfire.
A free day to relax or explore the area on your own.
Again, we start at 08:30 with a shared breakfast. You prepare your lunch and pack for the paddling day. Around 16:00 we finish on the river. The cooking group takes care of dinner, followed by a campfire evening.
We start the last paddling day at 08:30 with breakfast. After paddling, we come off the water around 15:00. Rented equipment is cleaned and returned.
We end the course week with a dinner at a local restaurant. Although the course officially ends after dinner, you are very welcome to stay longer at the Europagaai campsite field.
