About
Three to four day course designed to train students to proficiently sail on a 30 foot keelboat in light to moderate sea and wind conditions. This class goes over and tests students in the following:
- Acting as competent skipper and crew
- Important knots
- All parts of a sailboat
- Points of sail
- Maneuvers: tacking, jibing, heaving to, reefing, man overboard
**Day 1 and 2** – Practice and lectures
**Day 3 and 4** - Additional intsrtuction, written test, skills test, and certification awards

Ahoy Sailor!
Thank you for booking ASA 101, we are excited to welcome you to Sail Monterey and help you begin your sailing adventure! In order to be best prepared for the first day of sailing, please read through the class details below to familiarize yourself with what to expect.
Daily Schedule : Class will take place from 10am-around 3:30pm each day. Students will be expected to arrive at the Sail Monterey Office at least 15 minutes prior to start time. In the event that you will be arriving late, we request that you contact the office at (831) 372-7245 to let us know when to expect you.
Course Book : You will need the ASA’s “Sailing Made Easy” course book. You may either order a copy online (ASA.com, Amazon, etc.) at your own expense or you may pick up a copy for free from our office located at 78 Old Fisherman’s Wharf, Monterey. This book should be read before the course begins.
Lunch : Each day of class, you will get a break for lunch. We recommend that you bring food/drinks with you, but there are also places to purchase lunch nearby.
Dress Code : We recommend that you wear a few layers of clothing, depending on the weather. Your outer layer should be water proof/resistant, as there is a chance that you may come into contact with water during instruction. Shoes should be flat bottomed and with white soles. Wearing a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen is highly suggested.
Tipping instructors is recommended at course completion. Bring a cash tip for your instructor on day 3!

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations & Late/Absent Students
1. Late or absent students will not receive a refund, credit, or a rain-check. If you miss class you must pay full price for another class. Your instructor will do their best to accommodate you in the unlikely event of unforeseen circumstances that are out of your control.
2. Students that need to cancel their reservation must inform Sail Monterey at least 14 days prior to the first day of class to be eligible for a refund. Rescheduling the class or receiving a raincheck may not be possible if a cancellation is made inside this window.
3. If the instructor must cancel due to unforeseen circumstances (ie. weather or maintenance), students will be entitled to a full refund, partial refund, reschedule or otherwise suitable solution for the student.
