There's nothing like being out on the ocean enjoying the beautiful Hawaiian sunset and listening to soft Hawaiian music. Adventure X Boat Tours seek to do just that, but wait, there's more.
We anchor in about 20 feet of water with a beautiful sandy bottom and talk about how to behave with our Wild Manta Rays as well as learn some fun facts about these Reef Mantas. Once everyone has their gear and our guides get in the water, its time for you to hop in and meet these amazing animals! Did you know that Manta Rays have the largest brain out of all fish? You will learn more than that!
Watching these amazing creatures somersault in front of you multiple times, close enough to where you could kiss them, is a once in a lifetime experience. Afterwards, hot chocolate and snacks will be served on board. On the way back to the pier, you'll enjoy the beautiful starlit sky and maybe even see the bioluminescence.
Wild Animal Policy – Manta Ray Guarantee
Manta Rays are wild animals, and while we cannot guarantee their presence, we are proud to have a 90%+ success rate of sightings on our tours. However, nature can be unpredictable.
If no Manta Rays are seen during your tour, we’re happy to offer you a free “Come Again” trip on a standby basis. Here's how it works:
✅ 100% Free Return Trip – Valid only if no Manta Rays are sighted.
✅ Standby Basis Only – Space is limited and subject to availability.
✅ Non-Transferable – Must be used by the original guest.
✅ Valid for One Year – From the date of your original tour.
🎟️ Standby Check-In – “Come Again Free” spots are given out daily at 3 PM, first come, first served.

We do not offer refunds, as operating this tour involves significant costs regardless of sightings. We appreciate your understanding that wildlife encounters cannot be guaranteed.
Departing from the West side of the Big Island, conditions are typically calm, but there’s always a motion to the ocean. Sea sickness is uncommon on these tours, but for those who are susceptible we suggest taking seasickness medication the night before and the morning of your tour. We suggest staying hydrated, avoiding heavy foods, and abstaining from alcohol before your tour.
Restrictions: No one Pregnant over 6 months, no guests with back or neck injuries. No children under the age of 5 years old.

🚗 We do not provide transportation – guests must meet us at the harbor

Due to damage at Puako Boat Ramp, all tours now depart from:
Kawaihae South Basin Boat Harbor (Small Boat Harbor)
From Waikoloa / Mauna Lani:
Head north on Queen Ka‘ahumanu Hwy (HI-19) for ~12 miles
Turn left onto Kawaihae Rd
Turn left into the first harbor entrance (Gate 1)
Proceed through Gate 11, continue down the dirt road
Turn left at Gate 12
Continue straight through the yellow gate
Look for the bathroom building and boat ramp

🌧️ Weather, Water, & What to Expect
We operate rain or shine from the calm lee side of the island. Weather forecasts change frequently and are often inaccurate. We only cancel if conditions are unsafe.
If we cancel, we will contact you directly and offer:
A new tour date
Or a full refund
Our boat is a stable, raft-style vessel, designed for adventure!
Bring a light jacket, especially for the cooler night air
🤿 Snorkeling Details
All gear (mask, snorkel, wetsuit, pool noodle, manta board) is provided
No fins will be used
You’re welcome to bring your own mask/snorkel if preferred
All participants entering the water must be able to swim
You are not required to enter the water; you can watch from the boat if you choose
Guests must bring their own towel
Please arrive wearing your bathing suit
Bring a change of clothes for after the tour
💡 You’ll hold onto a floating “Manta Board” while in the water (see photos on our website for reference)
🚫 Health & Safety Notices
We are a drug- and alcohol-free vessel. Anyone under the influence will not be allowed in the water, and no refunds will be given.
If you’re prone to seasickness, take motion sickness meds the morning of your tour (not right before). Stay hydrated and avoid heavy food or alcohol.
❗ Important Reminders
This is a barefoot boat. We collect shoes before boarding. Wear easy slip-on shoes.
Rideshares (Uber/Lyft) are not reliable at night – please pre-arrange your return trip or use a taxi/rental car. Add 15 minutes buffer for your return time in case of delays.
Minimum passenger requirement: We need at least 8 guests to run the tour. If we don’t meet the minimum, we’ll notify you 24 hours in advance with options.

We see mantas 85%+ of the time, but they are wild animals and sightings can’t be guaranteed.
If no manta rays are seen on your tour:
You’ll receive a 100% FREE “Come Again” trip
Standby basis only, given out daily at 3 PM
Valid for 1 year, non-transferable, and first-come, first-served
No refunds offered — our tours operate at a high cost regardless of sightings

Can I bring a GoPro or waterproof camera?
Yes! You're welcome to bring cameras. Dry storage is available onboard.
What about sunscreen?
Only reef-safe sunscreen is allowed. Avoid formulas with oxybenzone, octinoxate, avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate, or octocrylene. Thank you for protecting our ocean!

Cancellation Policy
🚫 Cancellation & Booking Change Policy
We understand that plans can change — however, due to limited capacity and high demand, all cancellations, reschedules, or changes to your booking must be made at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled departure time.
Changes made less than 48 hours before departure are not eligible for a refund or reschedule.
This policy allows us the opportunity to rebook your spot and keep tours operating smoothly.
