At our Surf School, the health, safety, and well-being of our students, instructors, and all individuals involved in our activities are of the utmost importance. We are committed to providing a safe learning and recreational environment for everyone.
**Legal Compliance**
Salty Wave Surf School complies fully with all local, regional, and national health and safety legislation in Portugal, including beach use regulations, insurance requirements, and instructor certifications.
All instructors are qualified with appropriate surf coaching certifications and first aid training, including water rescue.
**Risk Management**
We conduct regular risk assessments of all activities, surf spots, and equipment.
Lessons are adapted according to surf conditions, participant ability, age, and experience.
We maintain up-to-date emergency procedures and evacuation plans.
**Instructor Responsibility**
All sessions are led by certified surf instructors trained in CPR, first aid, and ocean safety.
A minimum instructor-to-student ratio is maintained (maximum 1:8).
Instructors perform daily surf condition checks and reserve the right to cancel or reschedule sessions if conditions are deemed unsafe.
**Equipment Safety**
All surfboards, wetsuits, and leashes are checked regularly for wear and damage.
Proper use of equipment is explained and demonstrated before entering the water.
**Student Safety**
All participants must complete a medical and liability waiver prior to engaging in activities.
Students are briefed on surf safety rules, beach awareness, and local hazards before each session.
The use of rash vests or identification shirts is mandatory during sessions for visibility.
**Emergency Preparedness**
First aid kits are available at all times, and instructors are trained to respond effectively to medical incidents.
Emergency contact numbers and protocols are clearly displayed and communicated to staff.
**Hygiene and Infection Control**
Wetsuits and shared gear are rinsed and sanitized daily after the lessons.
We follow public health guidelines, including COVID-19 or other health-related protocols when applicable.
