Over the centuries, it was controlled by different powers, including the medieval Serbian state, the Kingdom of Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire.
Today, after extensive restoration, Golubac Fortress is one of Serbia's most impressive medieval landmarks.
Seeing its towers and walls rising directly above the Danube is an unforgettable experience, especially from a kayak.
Your Adventure Begins at Golubac Beach
The tour starts at the beach in Golubac, where you'll meet your guide.
Before entering the water, you'll receive all the equipment you need:
• Single or tandem kayak
• Paddle
• Certified life jacket
• Waterproof dry bag for your phone and valuables
Your guide will also provide a short introduction to kayaking, including basic paddling techniques, steering, and safety instructions.
No previous kayaking experience is required.
A moderate level of fitness is recommended for the approximately three-hour tour.
Paddle Toward the Fortress
After the safety briefing, we launch our kayaks and begin paddling along the Danube toward Golubac Fortress.
As the fortress comes closer, its towers and medieval walls become increasingly impressive.
The surrounding landscape adds to the experience, with green hills, cliffs, and the wide Danube creating spectacular views along the route.
A Unique View from the Water
One of the highlights of the tour is seeing Golubac Fortress from the river.
We'll paddle toward the fortress and stop on the water for photographs, videos, and a short break.
From this position, you can enjoy panoramic views of the fortress and its towers reflected in the Danube.
Please note that landing at or entering Golubac Fortress from the river is not permitted.
Access to the fortress is available only by land and is subject to local regulations.
Relax and Enjoy the Danube
After the photo stop, we begin our paddle back toward Golubac Beach.
The return journey offers more opportunities to enjoy the scenery, take photographs, and experience the peaceful atmosphere of the Danube.
The relaxed pace allows you to appreciate both the natural landscape and the historic surroundings.
