About
**On a Miller's Landing Full Day Fishing Charter for Halibut/King Salmon** we attempt to catch our daily limits of Halibut, King Salmon, and Rockfish! Departing at 6am, we will head to where we believe the best fishing can be had. This may mean venturing 60+ miles to the Western entrance of Prince William Sound to target the spring king fishery off Cape Cleare. We target Kings by trolling or mooching with both hardware and bait, working gear through the water column.
Some of our largest halibut have been harvested in the spring during species specific charters - this is a wonderful time of year to target both species.
When weather does not permit the exposed run East, we will push West and ply the barrier islands, moraines, and dynamic submerged structures of the Kenai Fjords National Park. The weather here can be more protected, and the fishing is much more diverse, not to mention stunningly beautiful.
We offer these trips from May 1-June 19, before the Silver Salmon typically arrive. Time is split between Halibut and King Salmon depending on tides and the primary target of the clientele, and we generally allocate some time for rock fishing always with the goal to come in with our limit. After June 19th, if you'd like to book a King / Hali combination trip, please just give us a call and we can likely arrange it for you so long as it is a whole boat booking - the price for trips post 6/19 may vary.
Many of our fishing spots have views of the fjords, glaciers, rookeries and feeding/nesting grounds for whales and sea birds.
King or (chinook) Salmon are the largest local salmon we can target, with sizes ranging from 10 - 50+ pounds. The "feeder kings" we target are king salmon that are not yet bound for the river. These fish go to sea for up to 8 years before returning to fresh water to spawn. The state of Alaska limits harvest to either one or two king salmon per person, depending on the area we are fishing.
A feeder king is a beautiful thing, both in the water and on the table. We treat these fish with reverence and respect both on and off the water, and take the best care possible with your catch from the time it leaves the water. We only allow senior crew to filet these fish, and we endeavor to harvest every bit for your homepack.

Cleaning and filleting of your fish and a private hanging station back at the landing for photos is included in your adventure. Your fishing experience will be enhanced while using purpose built custom rods made in the USA and field tested by our own crew for production by [Talon Rods]

Booking Notes
Our brand-new catamaran, the Fox Willie, departs at 6AM, is inspected for up to 20 people and fishes 10 unless your group has booked a custom charter. We often use this vessel to drop off kayakers in the national park- this is the reason for the earlier departure and does not cut into your fishing time, nor does it affect where we fish. Fishing stops for the day at 3:30pm, and we expect to return by 5:00-6PM or thereabouts. Our 6-person landing craft, Thomasea, departs at 6:00AM and returns by 5-6:PM as well.
# If you chose the "Book the Boat" rate, you have exclusive use of the boat for your party - the following criteria exist:
- 6 people max at the 6:00 departure time on the Thomasea
- 16 people max at the 6:00 departure time on the Fox Willie - Note the Fox Willie will only be able to fish 10 anglers for halibut, and no more than 10 anglers should expect to fish at a time for any species. If you're coming with a party of 16, all 16 can fish for salmon or rock fish, but no more than 10 at a time (you'll have to take turns).
- If you've booked either boat and require a departure time later in the day, we can do that with advance notice, but do know the boats are back by 5:30-6PM regardless of any late start requested. Earlier returns are not an issue - you've booked the boat - just let us know what you'd like to focus on!
- It should go without saying that booking the boat doesn't mean you're allowed to operate it! The captain and deckhand will work with your requests but are still in charge.
# Charters include fishing tackle, bait, guide, and necessary equipment in the price, but do not include any gratuity you may wish to add for the crew - Please read the following before you arrive!
# Cook your Catch!
Turn your catch into dinner after your trip with our new Cook Your Catch experience. Bring fish caught on your Miller’s Landing charter straight to our cafe and our kitchen will prepare it fresh the same day, served with seasonal sides for a true Alaska dock-to-table meal experience. Pricing starts at $35 per person when booked in advance ($45 per person within 48 hours of your trip), and availability may be limited.

# Charters are only able to fish for what is in season and legal to harvest as ordained by NOAA, NMFS, and ADF&G regulations.
* **Charters do not include meals or foul weather gear** please plan ahead!
As inventory permits, the Miller's Landing store does sell limited rain gear, hats, etc.
* **NO BANANAS OR ANY BANANA RELATED PRODUCTS WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE BOAT!** Banana’s are bad luck. The crew **will** throw them overboard, we take this seriously.
* **Hard alcohol is not permitted on board.** Feel free to bring some beer or wine to enjoy during your charter, but **inebriation will not be tolerated.**
* **Marijuana may not be consumed or carried on board.** Marijuana is not federally recognized, and our boats operate within federal jurisdiction.
* **Please medicate for sea sickness in advance if necessary** if it is known to ail you ahead of time, go to bed early the night before and follow the instructions on your motion sickness treatment meds! Alcohol and antihistamines will have you sleeping all day, so don't plan a big night out before your charter!

# Suggested Clothing & Equipment
- **There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad equipment** - *Old Norwegian saying*
- **Assume it's going to rain** and be happy when it doesn't. The majority of the time it's gorgeous out there, but there's nothing like being prepared:
* **Layer, Layer, and Layer:** Synthetics or wool are best with a rain proof top and bottom if possible.
* **Gloves:** Bulky gloves can be more trouble than they're worth and accidentally torque down on the drag on the reel, etc. Light duty polypro gloves or featherweight neoprene can get wet, are cheap, pack easy, etc.
* **A good hat:**
* Sunscreen & any medication you may need
* **Sea sickness meds:** - if you know you suffer from sea sickness, ask your doctor if [Promethazine](https://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-8895/promethazine-oral/details) is appropriate for you. If it's good enough for astronauts, it'll probably work on our boats. Transderm Scopalamine patches are also very effective and don't result in drowsiness.
* **Camera:** If you have a waterproof housing or bag, definitely bring it! On kayaking trips, cameras of course have an increased risk of falling into the ocean. Phones work great, and we may have water resistant phone cases for you to use during your trip, inquire when you arrive!

#Fishing License
Fishing Licenses are not included in the price of the above charter. We DO NOT sell fishing licenses at Millers Landing, it is necessary to purchase it in advance. You will need to have the QR Code provided with your license available for the deckhand to scan.

#Fuel Surcharge
Please know that fuel is the largest expense we have as charter operators. Our prices reflect the price of fuel at the time of publishing. In previous years we have not added a fuel surcharge, however, due to the volatile and uncertain nature of fuel prices, Millers Landing reserves the right to add a fuel surcharge to the trip rates.
A fuel surcharge will only be applied in the event of soaring fuel prices based on the price of fuel at the time of your charter. Should the price of marine fuel remain under $4.50 per gallon there will be no additional charge.
This will ensure that we are able to take you to the best fishing grounds without regard for the cost of fuel or how far we must travel. By adding a fee schedule we can mitigate that concern, and provide you the ultimate fishing experience.

#Fishing Regulations & Species Targeted
Your guide(s) will help you follow the fishing regulations in our area, but ultimately you'll need to be aware of the rules to follow in order to enjoy our amazing fishery!
Your full day combination charter will target Halibut, Rock Fish, Ling Cod, and Silver Salmon. You are likely to catch a variety of things additionally, however harvesting the above species will be our our main goal for the day.
