##Day 1 Academic and Pool:
##Monterey Sports Center
301 E Franklin St, Monterey, CA 93940
We'll start by meeting in the Monterey Sports Center Lobby at 8 am. After a short introduction we’ll use the conference room for academic review and lecture from 8:30-10:30 am. We encourage everyone to have breakfast or snack before our academic review. Feel free to bring your lunch or pick one up locally.
Following our academic review, we will issue your rental gear. Once you have all the items you need we will suit up together and get in the pool. Here, we will practice dive safety, static and dynamic apnea, and learn breathing and physical techniques to improve your freediving. The pool session will finish by 3 pm, followed by a short debrief.
*Occasionally we conduct class and confined water at the Aquarius Dive Shop pool in Monterey. If this is the case for your course, your instructor will send out details for location.
##Day 2 Ocean Session:
##Breakwater Cove
32 Cannery Row, Monterey, CA 93940
We’ll meet at Breakwater Cove at 8 am to assess the site and plan our dive. We'll conduct a short breathwork and stretching seminar to warm up, then begin suiting up to enter the water. Once in the water, we’ll practice getting to depth and conduct skill assessments required to complete your Freediver certification. Make sure to bring a towel or something to sit on during our yoga/warm up session on the grass.
Open Water days on Sunday will coincide with our Monterey Community Line Dive Sessions. This is where other certified Freedivers will join us and dive on seperate floats while you actively work with your instructor. It is also a great opportunity for students who could not pass during their first class, to come join another training session and complete their certification. We run Monterey Community Line Dive Sessions a few times a month and they are an excellent way to keep your skills sharp and advance your training.
##Tips for the Weekend:
##Stay Hydrated:
Proper hydration is crucial for freediving. Make sure you drink enough water leading up to and throughout the course. Bring a water bottle, a source of electrolytes, and snacks each day.
##Get a Good Night's Rest:
A well-rested body and mind are essential for success. Aim for a good night's sleep before each day.
##Comfortable Attire:
Wear comfortable clothing suitable for each day with sun protection for the open water day. Layered clothing is best because Monterey can be cold and foggy, or sunny and warm, fluctuating throughout the day.
##Open Mindset:
Be ready to learn and embrace new techniques and skills. Everything in this course is done for a reason, so approach it with a positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
##Team Attitude:
Approach the course with a positive attitude and an eagerness to explore the underwater world. With myself instructing and assisting, we will be a team this weekend. A teamwork mentality will increase safety and enjoyment.
We look forward to sharing this education and helping you become a confident and skilled Freediver. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. Your safety, enjoyment, and learning are our top priorities.
