Booking Notes
Welcome to Surf the Smokies!
We are so stoked to get you flying above Douglas Lake. Here's everything you need to know before your session.
⚠️ FIRST THINGS FIRST — SIGN YOUR WAIVER
Please complete your liability waiver before you arrive. Every rider must have a signed waiver on file before getting on the water — completing it ahead of time means less paperwork at check-in and more time flying. If you're booking for a group, each participant needs their own waiver, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian to sign for them.
WHAT TO BRING
A swimsuit or clothes you don't mind getting wet
A towel and a full change of clothes
Water shoes or sandals that strap to your feet (flip flops don't work on the board)
Sunscreen — apply before you arrive
A water bottle
A chill attitude and a readiness for a transcendent experience
WHAT WE PROVIDE
All the gear that matters — your Fliteboard, a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket, and a helmet, all fitted at check-in. Just bring yourself and your sense of adventure.
GETTING HERE — READ THIS CAREFULLY
Our address is 729 Wander Way, Sevierville, TN 37876 — but the easiest way to find us is to simply search "Surf the Smokies" on Google Maps. It'll bring you right to us.
Fuel up and grab food before you turn off Highway 411. Once you leave 411, there are no additional gas stations or food stops on the way to us. Your last opportunity is the Chambers Market / BP / Subway — stop there for gas, snacks, or a bite before heading our way.
When you turn onto Wander Way, bear LEFT and proceed through the gate.
Follow the path to the right. Just before the barn on the hill, you'll find the Smoky Mountain Surf Shop down the path to your right. That's where we'll meet you.
Need to freshen up first? A restroom is available, and there's space to change before we head down to the water — just ask when you arrive.
HOW YOUR SESSION WILL GO
Plan for about 2 hours with us from start to finish. Here's the journey:
Introduction — We'll start on land with an introduction to how the board operates and a full safety briefing.
Lying down — You'll get comfortable on the water operating the board while lying down.
Up to your knees — Once you've got the feel for it, you'll progress to riding on your knees.
Standing — Then you'll rise to your feet and find your balance.
Foiling — Finally, you'll learn the mechanics behind foiling — the moment the board lifts and you fly above the water. This is the magic.
Every rider progresses at their own pace, and our instructors are with you every step of the way.
A NOTE ON WEATHER
Here's the beauty of being right on the water — we can almost always find a window to ride. Storms roll through the Smokies, but they pass, and honestly some of the best riding happens right after a storm clears when the lake goes glassy. If there's lightning, we'll simply pause and wait it out safely before heading onto the water. So don't stress about the forecast — we've got you covered, and we'll make sure you get your shot at flying.
BEFORE YOU COME — CHECK OUT surfthesmokies.com
Everything you need is on our website:
Weather forecast — a live 10-day look at conditions on Douglas Lake
Surf zone map — see exactly where you'll be riding
Merch — grab a t-shirt, hat, or koozie to remember your ride
A FEW HOUSE RULES
Please leave outside animals at home. Hunkerdown Hollow is a working farm with its own animals, and we ask that no outside pets come onto the property.
Bring good vibes. This is a laid-back, welcoming place. Leave your stress at the gate — Wander Way is aptly named.
