Sunset Kayak Tour Belgrade – Experience Great War Island at Golden Hour
There is no better way to end a summer day in Belgrade than paddling across the calm waters of the Danube as the sun slowly sets behind the city skyline.
Our Sunset Kayak Tour around Great War Island combines kayaking, nature, wildlife, and spectacular evening views of Belgrade.
As the day comes to an end, the river becomes calmer, the temperature becomes more comfortable, and the changing light creates beautiful reflections across the water.
Discover the Wild Side of Belgrade
Great War Island (Veliko Ratno Ostrvo) is a protected natural area located at the confluence of the Danube and Sava Rivers, in the heart of Belgrade.
Often called the lungs of Belgrade, the island is home to forests, wetlands, and a wide variety of wildlife.
More than 100 bird species can be found in the area, along with beavers, otters, nutria, wild boars, and other animals.
In the evening, the island becomes especially peaceful. Birds return to their nests, the river becomes quieter, and the warm evening light transforms the landscape.
Tour Schedule
The Sunset Kayak Tour operates every day from May through the end of September.
Depending on the season and sunset time, departures are scheduled between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
2 Hours kayaking
Our departure times are adjusted throughout the season so that the tour takes place during the beautiful golden hour and continues into sunset.

Beginner Friendly
Never been kayaking before?
No problem.
Before launching, your guide will provide a short introduction to kayaking and explain basic paddling techniques, steering, and safety rules.
You'll have time to get comfortable in the kayak before continuing with the tour.
No previous kayaking experience is required.
Paddle Toward Lido Beach
After leaving Zemun, we paddle toward Lido Beach, located at the northern tip of Great War Island.
Along the way, you'll enjoy views of historic Zemun, the Gardoš Tower, traditional boats, and the green shoreline of the island.
As the sun gets lower, the atmosphere becomes quieter and the city takes on a warm golden glow.
The Golden Hour on the Danube
One of the highlights of the tour is reaching the area where the Sava River meets the Danube as the evening light begins to change.
From the water, you'll have beautiful views of Kalemegdan Fortress, Belgrade's skyline, Zemun, and Great War Island.
The setting sun creates reflections across the rivers and gives the city a completely different appearance.
We'll have time to slow down, take photographs, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings before continuing the paddle.
Paddle Around Great War Island
As we continue around the island, you'll experience Great War Island during one of the most beautiful times of day.
The water is often calm, the air is cooler, and the evening light changes from golden to orange and pink as the sun approaches the horizon.
The combination of peaceful water, wildlife, and city views makes sunset kayaking a special way to experience Belgrade.
Watch the Sunset from Your Kayak
Instead of watching the sunset from a crowded viewpoint, you'll experience it from the middle of the river.
Floating quietly on the Danube while the last light of the day illuminates Belgrade is a peaceful and memorable experience.
It's a completely different way to see the city.
Optional Swim at Lido Beach
Depending on weather and water conditions, and if the group wishes, we may make a short stop at Lido Beach before returning to Zemun.
You can take a refreshing swim, relax on the beach, take photographs, or simply enjoy the evening atmosphere.
If you prefer to continue paddling, we can return directly to the kayak center.
